Of course this week has flown by and is somewhat of a blur already… I can’t believe last week at this time Emmett was just getting ready to make his debut! We have been surrounded by amazingly helpful family and friends so this past week has been relatively easy adjusting to our new normal.
Luckily, my recovery has gone very smoothly, primarily because I have been able to take it easy and rest during the day due to all of the extra help we have had. We spent Friday evening and all day Saturday at home with just us 5, definitely some of my favorite moments! Emmett was up quite a bit Friday night, so we were all exhausted on Saturday and Shae was extra tired/moody/emotional- such a girl! Alisa, Jonathan and Sonja Ann came over to meet Emmett on Saturday night- Emmett’s first girlfriend!
Saturday night went much better and Emmett had 2 long 4 hour stretches of sleep! On Sunday Aunt Kristen and her roommate Rebecca came over and took the big kids to Deanna Rose which allowed Clint and I to get some rest before his family arrived that afternoon. After the kids got back from Deanna Rose my family came over and Uncle Doodles and Great-Nan and Great-Gramps Mitts came to meet Emmett.
GiGi, Pops and Aunt Runie drove to KC and stayed from Sunday to Tuesday and everyone was glad to see them! Gigi went to get Shae up from her nap on Sunday and Shae immediately exclaimed “GiGi!!! I missed you!!!” Sweet girl, and I think she melted her Gigi’s heart. The Gallagher’s helped out with the big kids by taking them to the park so Clint and I could take Emmett to his first Dr’s appointment, and they took them swimming at the pool too! On Tuesday before the Gallaghers left we went to the park and attempted a few family pictures with our newest addition- not too horrible with 3 under 3 and 2 tired parents. There were tears shed when the Gallaghers headed back to Indiana- we already can’t wait to see them again soon!
Clint headed back to work on Wednesday morning after staying to help with the kids for a few hours (well he went in Monday too for a 1/2 day). Luckily my Mom came over not too long after Clint left and whisked the big kids off to the pool for the morning- one of their favorites things and we are SO lucky they have still been able to do some of their favorite things since Emmett’s arrival.
I am really trying not to overdo it too early this time around. After having both Shae and August I ended up either hurting my back, having recurrent mastitis, and just generally overdoing it which makes getting back to a normal routine very difficult. I am hoping that the next few weeks continue to go as well as this first one and we can start getting back out into the world, having play dates, going for walks and doing fun things around town.
Update: Emmett was up to 7lbs 9oz by 9 days- well past his birth weight! He’s already trying to catch up with big brother.
