Emmett took his first trip (post-natally that is) at the end of September. Clint, Emmett, and I flew to Denver and then drove to Breckenridge to celebrate one of our good friends weddings! When Maribeth asked me to be a bridesmaid in the wedding I was super nervous about being 10 weeks postpartum, but everything went great traveling with Emmett and we had an amazing weekend celebrating Maribeth and Creagh!
Clint went to high school with Maribeth so he would claim her as “his friend”. However, one trip to Humphrey’s was all I needed to know MB and I would be great life-long friends. We made a lot of memories together in college with visits to SLU, UGA, and meeting in Evansville for holidays. Maribeth moved to KC for medical school right around the same time Clint and I moved back/got married and we couldn’t have been more thrilled to have her close by! I hadn’t met Creagh until we got to Breck for the wedding, but knowing MB I knew she would never settle for anything less than perfect, and Creagh truly lives up to those standards.
We flew out of KC Thursday morning and Emmett was perfect on the flight. He ate on the way up and the way down and was happy and content the whole flight. Clint commented that he had never seen him that happy, and I think it was because he had never had that much 1:1 (or 2:1) attention in his whole life! The drive from Denver to Breck wasn’t too bad, and Emmett slept most of the way.
Thursday was pretty low key, and I ended up with a killer headache that night which made me very nervous for the rest of the weekend. Luckily a little sleep helped cure it and I was good to go for a busy weekend.
Friday, Kara and I went in to town to get some things for the Bridal luncheon. It was SO amazing to catch up with one of my best friends after nearly 9 months. The boys went on a fishing trip and unfortunately didn’t even see a fish. But form the pictures they had a beautiful hike at least!
Friday night was the rehearsal dinner, which was absolutely beautiful. Since Emmett was only 10 weeks old we planned on just keeping him with us for everything, and he could not have done any better! He ate before dinner and then slept the rest of the evening until we got home. He was the perfect baby just being carried around while Clint and I were able to socialize and enjoy ourselves. I must have said it a million times, but he truly was at the perfect age to bring along for this type of trip.
Saturday was a crazy busy day. with hair/makeup starting at 8AM for this Mama! Emmett didn’t sleep very well the whole trip so I was running on less than 5 hours of sleep most nights. Luckily, I had plenty of adrenaline from the excitement of the wedding to carry me through!
The entire day was absolutely perfect. Sunny skies with beautiful temps and a great group for the bridal party. The ceremony was at 2:30 and we did pictures between the ceremony and reception. Hiking in a bridesmaids dress and heels isn’t exactly ideal but we got some of the most gorgeous pictures! And it was the only hiking I had time to do the whole weekend so it was definitely worth it.
The reception was, of course, gorgeous and SO much fun! Emmett was again a wonderful little guy, and even enjoyed some time on the dance floor!
We were so sad to leave on Sunday, but I was also ready to get back to my other 2 babes who had been hanging with Nana and Papa this whole time. We are so blessed to have such an amazing group of friends, and wish Dr. and Dr. Milford all of the love and happiness in the world!
